Frequently Asked Questions

A minimum of 18 to 24 inches between shoulder mounts is recommended for visual separation and to prevent antler overlap. For larger species like elk or moose, increase spacing to 30 to 36 inches. Mounts should also be at least 12 inches from ceiling and room corners for a clean look.

The center of the mount (typically at eye level of the animal) should be 60 to 72 inches from the floor. This puts the mount at a natural viewing angle. Larger mounts like elk may be hung slightly higher (72 to 84 inches to center) so the antlers do not interfere with headroom below.

Measure your available wall width and subtract 24 inches for end margins (12 inches each side). Divide the remaining width by the mount width plus the spacing between mounts. For example, a 12-foot wall can typically hold 3 to 4 standard deer shoulder mounts with proper spacing.

Full body mounts on pedestal bases work best positioned where they can be viewed from multiple angles - either in the center of the room or in a prominent corner. Allow at least 36 inches of clearance around all sides. Consider the direction the animal is facing and how it relates to the room entry point.

Directional accent lighting produces the best results for trophy rooms. Use adjustable track lighting or individual spotlights aimed at each mount from a 30 to 45 degree angle above. Avoid direct overhead lighting which creates harsh shadows. LED lights with a warm color temperature (2700K to 3000K) bring out natural hide colors without UV damage.
